Mapping Color: Ecoprinting with Plants - Coming Soon!

Instructor: Sarah Ollikkala Jones

In this class, you will learn:

+ to print with flowers and leaves using The Modern Natural Dyer as reference.

+ steps in the natural dyeing process to create long-lasting natural color on wool, silk, cotton, and linen.

+ which plants contain dye, their identifying properties, and where they can be found.

The eco-printing technique is particularly captivating as it provides a way to bring your garden with you everywhere you go! Throughout time, people have used a variety of techniques to mark their clothing as their own. You can use natural dyes to record a history of your hikes through nature.

There will be a collection of samples from the projects in The Modern Natural Dyer for you to see in person - including the Flowers at My Fingertips Sewing Kit and samples of colors from the book. You will leave this class with a series of eco-printed fabrics, and a practical foundation to starting your own eco-printing practice using The Modern Natural Dyer.

Each student will receive a Mapping Color Kit which includes:

+ Silk scarf
+ Linen fabric
+ Wool flannel fabric
+ Dye plants*
+ Thread
