Mending Kit

Holes happen in our most beloved garments and homewares. Never fear! Our mending kits feature unique, durable fabrics in an array of weights good for mending jeans, overalls, dresses, shirts, and quilts. The thread included is made of 100% cotton with a tight twist adding extra durability.

Kit includes:

+ 1 piece of Sally Fox dark blue medium-weight (6.5oz) denim fabric (approx 10" x 6"). We dug deep into our archives for this one! This fabric was woven with organic cotton grown in New Mexico and woven in Japan. Sally Fox has been breeding cotton for the past thirty years, working to expand and support naturally colored cotton. The weft of the medium blue color of this fabric is made from undyed cotton in the color Coyote Brown making both the front and back of this fabric beautiful to use.

+ 1 piece of ivory sashiko medium-weight fabric (approx 10" x 9") Sashiko is a form of functional embroidery, traditionally developed and used in Japan during the Edo period (1603 - 1868) and is still practiced today. It was often used to strengthen clothing to make it even more durable. The designs are printed onto the fabric with washable ink. So once you have completed the stitching, toss it in the washing machine, and the print will dissolve, leaving your beautiful lines of stitches.

+ 3 pieces of Fog Linen fabric* (approx 4" x 4") Fog Linen Work, located in Japan, is known for their exquisite hand-crafted linen and minimalist design. All of their linen is made in Lithuania of the highest-quality flax and is medium-weight, making it easy to sew and incredibly durable.

+ 1 piece of Fog Linen fabric (approx 3" x 3")

+ 1 piece of Fog Linen fabric (approx 2" x 2")

+ 2 Olympus Sashiko Needles

+ Merchant & Mills Baby Bow Scissors - Nearly 3" (6.75cm) in total length. Hand finished in smooth black with a monogrammed M for Merchant & Mills. Sharp as an arrow and seriously desirable. 

+ 1 hank of Olympus sashiko thread - natural

+ A Verb for Keeping Warm Sashiko thread - dyed blue with natural indigo in our Oakland-based studio, approx. 20 yards

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.

Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions: 

Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.

Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.

Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.

Packages ship Tuesday through Saturday via USPS. Once shipped, you will receive a confirmation email and tracking number. Please use the tracking number provided and contact the shipping carrier directly with any questions about transit and delivery. 

Please select the insured option at checkout to ensure compensation for a lost package. Once the package has been picked up by the shipping carrier, we are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged packages. We do not offer refunds or credits for lost or stolen packages.

If you select an insured option and need to file a claim with USPS, we will provide you with the documentation needed to complete your claim. Packages are insured for the order total. If your package is stolen, please contact your credit card company to receive any possible compensation.

International Orders
All international orders are shipped uninsured USPS First Class Parcel Post. We are not responsible for packages which are held in customs or lost. International orders may incur customs fees. We are not responsible for fees you may incur. International shipments can take two months to reach their destination. We caution against placing an order if you live outside the United States. At this time, we are unable to ship to the United Kingdom due to the complicated VAT situation. 

Curbside Pick-Up
To pick up your order at our shop, when checking out, under shipping method, choose Pick up at our Oakland store - 6328 San Pablo Ave.

You will receive an email when your order is ready. Orders placed Tuesday-Saturday are typically ready within 2-3 hours. To pick up your order, come to the shop between 11am - 3pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Knock on the front door and give us your name. 

Pre-orders
Pre-orders will ship on the date listed on the product’s webpage. If you ordered additional items, all items will be shipped with your pre-order. If you would like those items shipped separately, please place two separate orders.
