Flock is a lightweight yarn made from American wool and milled in Vermont. It is made of a single strand of yarn giving it a rustic, handspun feel. That said, the wool used in Flock is soft! It really is the best of both worlds.

We began making Flock in 2015. The first edition was made from a blend of  California wool (cormo, targhee, and corriedale). The second edition, released in 2017, consisted of Mendocino Targhee (white) and Montana Rambouillet (grey). A little later in the year, we released a new natural color of Flock - Grizzly Peak - one of the most popular colors used in our Horizon line of yarn. This wool is organic and was grown by farmer Sally Fox. The entire line of the third edition of Flock, released in 2018, was made from Sally's wool and included new natural colors: Tortilla, Tree Fort, Cocoa, and Sunflower Seed. The fourth edition of Flock, also released in 2018, is made from Mendocino Targhee - like the second edition!

Flock is best suited for shawls, scarves, cowls, and lightweight sweaters. Because the wool in Flock changes in each edition, due to the slight differences in sheep's wool, each edition of Flock is a little bit unique! Since there is a limited amount of this yarn available, we encourage you to purchase all of the yarn required to make your intended project.

The colorways Granite and Sunflower Seed feature wisps of grey and brown wool, respectively, winding around a white core, resulting in a marbled effect that creates long running stripes of white and the colored wool. If you are looking for a solid natural color, choose Tree Fort, Cocoa, or Grizzly Peak.  If you see a colorway with "Marble" in its name, that means it is dyed on Granite or Sunflower Seed and that you will see the same marbling underneath the dye. Colorway names without "Marble" are dyed on a solid natural color.

If you are looking for a heavier yarn made from California wool and milled in America, check out our other farm yarns: Gather, Horizon, Dawn, and Ridge.
