Habu Textiles - A-11 Persimmon-dyed Gima Cotton

~~~
Habu Textiles
100% Cotton
14 g / 132 yards [120.7 m]
Very similar to A-174 Cotton Gima - except this collection is dyed with the juice of green, unripe persimmons. Each layer of dye is painted onto the yarn, and then the yarn is exposed to UV light to set the dye. Multiple layers are applied to create darker colors. Modifiers, like baking soda or iron water are added to create the dark brown and grey shades, respectively. This is an incredibly unique yarn and one we covet here at Verb.
Gima, the name of this yarn, means to "fake linen" in Japanese. Though this yarn feels like linen, and the surface has a sheen similar to linen, it is actually made of cotton. At first the yarn is slightly stiff due to the process of making the yarn, though once you knit with the yarn and wear the piece you have knit, the yarn softens greatly - developing beautiful drape.
