AVFKW x Kristine Vejar - Mica Sock Kit from 52 Weeks of Socks

~~~
52 Weeks of Socks is a beautiful new book from Laine. The book contains 52 knitting patterns for socks and slippers including two patterns, Mica and Lazy Daisy, designed by Kristine Vejar, co-owner of A Verb for Keeping Warm. Both pairs she designed use Gather, our sport weight yarn made from California-raised Rambouillet wool and Arizona alpaca, and milled in Arizona. If you would like to hear more from the people who raise these materials, or from the person who mills this yarn, check out our podcast, Reverberate.
Kristine wanted to create a sock with an easy-to-follow colorwork pattern so everyone from beginners to experts could make them. To create the colorwork design, Kristine used the shape of a circle as her inspiration. Through sketching she pulled on the edges of the circle, making an organic shape, similar to a fleck of mica, hence the name and the choice of colors, Smoke and Lighthouse, used to knit the sample. These socks are knit top down with a heel flap + gusset construction and a wedge shaped toe. The pattern is written for magic loop method. Due to the use of a thicker yarn, these socks are a quick knit and are cozy to wear around the house. Just imagine sitting next to the fire, wearing your cozy new hand-knit socks, a big cup of tea, reading.
