The Whirligig Bag/Container is an innovative textile structure adapted from a Japanese bag pattern. In this workshop students will use the strips of fabric used to make this Bag/Container to learn a number of embroidery running stitches – a sampler of sorts. Then the strips of fabric will be hand-stitched together to make a decorative container that can be used to hold pencils, brushes, knitting needles, etc. We will learn 4-6 running stitches depending time including: running stitch, back stitch, chain stitch, couching stitch, and the whipped running stitch. The container made is this class is a smaller version of a bag and we will discuss how to alter the proportions to create a project bag.

This workshop is great for those wanting to learn useful stitching techniques while making something that can be used or given as a gift. Suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers alike.

This class will be recorded and available to attendees for two weeks following the class.
