Japanese Sewing Patterns: Coming Soon!

Instructor: Tasa Gleason

Welcome to Japanese Sewing Book class!

I have had many people ask me about these books recently! This class is an opportunity to learn how to properly work with these fascinating sewing patterns.

There are several very talented Japanese designers publishing books of sewing patterns that have now been translated into English. The designs are wonderful: classic, sophisticated and easy to sew... once you learn how to read the patterns and directions properly! These books can be overwhelming to look at on your own, especially if you have only ever sewn with more traditional western commercial patterns. But once you learn how to read the directions and the best way to start tracing off your patterns you will be just fine.

This class will teach you how to properly work with these fascinating patterns. We will focus on learning to trace off your pattern pieces, add the seam allowance, and understand the sewing directions. We will be sewing a simple, yet flattering, bolero shrug/jacket. This is a great project to start with as fit will most likely not be an issue. We will focus on learning the techniques you will need to know so that you can construct a large range of garments for yourself in the future.

Prerequisites: This class is recommended for intermediate sewists. You must have the ability to sew in straight lines and curves, and have some apparel experience (i.e. you have made a simple garment before).
