Pattern Modification: Uptown Jacket - Coming Soon!
Instructor: Tasa Gleason
Let's learn to do some pattern hacking!
The clean silhouette of our Uptown Top makes it perfect for alterations and modifications. In this class we will modify the top into a slouchy, modern jacket. The resulting Uptown Jacket is easy to sew, perfect for layering, and very fashion forward!
We will discuss pattern hacking and learn what steps go into modifying patterns. Then we'll alter the front pattern pieces of the Uptown Top to accommodate a separating zipper, learn about adding a lining to a garment, and construct the jacket!
This class will help students see more opportunities in sewing patterns, and encourage sewists to take chances by altering existing designs. We will work on expanding our ability to see alternate possibilities in patterns, along with learning techniques that will serve you in all of your garment making! Our small class sizes and individual teacher attention result in a huge increase in one’s ability to create a professional looking sewn garment.
Class will be held in 3 sessions:
- take measurements and determine your size
- trace your pattern
- make alterations to pattern
- draft facing pieces
- advice on picking appropriate fashion fabric
- cut fabric
- apply interfacing
- sew lining
- discus pocket options
- sew jacket shell
- assemble jacket shell and lining
- set in zipper
