Sew the Tendril Tank - Coming Soon!

Instructor: Tasa Gleason

Interested in sewing our Tendril Dress but want a more casual garment? We've modified the pattern to create a cropped version of the Tendril Dress into an breezy tank! Join us for a fun class that walks you through the process of sewing on the bias and sewing with linen. You will learn to sew french seams and apply a bias facing to finish the arm and neck openings -- resulting in a clean, sophisticated look.

This pattern is simple but classic, and its bias drape is flattering and versatile so it makes a great go-to summer piece or year round layering piece. Once you are comfortable sewing it you can easily sew the Tendril Dress for even more options, or try it in different fabrics to experiment with different looks! The Tendril Tank is also a perfect canvas for shibori, embroidery, or other embellishment techniques - for example, it was featured in The Modern Natural Dyer project The Fishbone Dress.

Class will be held in 2 sessions:
Note: there will be homework between class sessions.

Session 1:
+ discuss sewing with linen and other difficult fabrics
+ take measurements and determine your size
 + trace your pattern
+ see a demo of cutting fabric "on-the-bias"
+ student homework: cutting fabric for your Tendril Tank, bring to Session 2.

Session 2:
 - sew tank body with french seams
 - cut and sew bias facing strips
 - turn and finish facing strips
 - learn technique for hemming garment

Prerequisites: This class is for the advanced intermediate sewist. You should be very confident in basic sewing, including sewing curves and sewing with accurate and consistent seam allowance. This should not be your first garment, but can be your first time sewing with linen or on the bias.
