Did you take Sewing Fundamentals 101: Tote Bag and are ready for the next step? Have you had some sewing experience and would like to expand your skillset? Either way this class is perfect for you! Come in with your own project picked out and work through it with some guidance, or come in without a project in hand and we will talk through what you have done, what you would like to do and find a project/projects that will get you there. Our small class sizes and individual teacher attention result in a huge increase in one’s ability to create a professional looking sewn item.
Techniques you can learn:+ How to layout pattern pieces and cut fabric
+ Proper pinning technique
+ How to better understand seam allowance
+ How to sew a curved seam
+ How to apply fusible interfacing
+ How to apply bias tape
+ How to set snaps
+ Hand sewing finishing techniques
+ Proper use and care of sewing tools
+ Proper pressing technique
+ How to sew in a zipper
+ Working with a muslin for garments
+ Altering a pattern for fit
+ Tips for future projects!
Prerequisites: Sewing Fundamentals 101 or ability to use a sewing machine, sew in a straight line and understand seam allowance. You should be confident in basic operation of your machine (i.e. winding a bobbin, threading your machine, forward and reverse stitching).
+ Sewing machine
+ Basic sewing kit. Scissors (cloth and paper), thread, hand and machine sewing needles, marking tools (pencil and fabric pen/chalk), 18" x 2" clear ruler, pins, etc.
+ Sewing pattern (already picked out by you or TBD in class)
+ Fabric and notions required for pattern
2 sessions / 3 hours each / offered throughout the year.

Tasa holds a certificate in Apparel Design and Merchandising and has been working as a professional costume and apparel designer for over 15 years. She is the technical designer and pattern drafter for Verb’s line of sewing patterns and teaches sewing classes at Verb. Tasa makes over 50% of her own, and her family’s, wardrobe and hopes that her classes inspire others to create and work with textiles in whatever way fits their lifestyle.
