The Chroma Project Bag Kit by Kristine Vejar, co-owner of AVFKW // featuring fabrics naturally-dyed in the A Verb for Keeping Warm studio.
It's time for the release of Making 8 / Forest, and we are excited to share our newest kit The Chroma Project Bag. This bag is an exploration of color, both in terms of how to work with natural dyes to expand and change the palette, and how to incorporate naturally dyed color into design where multiple colors interact.
The Chroma Project Bag is an easy project to make and it provides endless possibilities to play with color and develop your own favorite color combinations. Once completed, not only can it be used for carrying your current project, it is also a great size for collecting treasures found during walks through the forest.
We have created kits using the same materials Kristine used in her project! This includes three naturally dyed fabrics, natural or naturally dyed twill tape, and naturally dyed sashiko thread. You have a choice of two colorways: Foliage (yellow / green) or Roots (tan / brown).
The Chroma Project Bag Kit includes enough fabric to create one bag in either the large or small size.
Please note, this kit does not include instructions. If you need a copy of the instructions, please make sure to either purchase a copy of Making Magazine No. 8 or add the PDF to your cart below.

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.
