On January 29th we welcome a special guest teacher, Cal Patch is coming to Verb!
Cal Patch has been a maker since she was a Girl Scout in the seventies. She sews, crochets, spins, embroiders, knits, prints, makes patterns, dyes… hence the name of her label: "hodge podge". You can see what she’s up to at http://hodgepodgefarm.net
Cal has taught all of these subjects for the past ten years, and loves showing people new skills. Her first book, Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified, was the coursebook for a class we offered last summer called "Design and Sew Your Own Clothes." Karen King took the class and made her very first skirt.
Now Cal is coming to teach us in person! We are so excited to have her, and we hope you will join us for the day.
In this all-day workshop, Cal will show you two projects using techniques from her book. We'll begin with a classic A-line skirt, and then proceed to a sleeveless shift dress*. Then we will play with transforming techniques like adding internal seams and "slash-and-spread", to customize your patterns into the styles you envision. With this foundation you can go on to making all kinds of garments, and a whole new wardrobe!
