For indigo connoisseurs and those who honor hyper-local natural dyeing journeys, we have something very special to share with you today: 

To celebrate Summer, we have created a limited number of aqua blue Good Vibrations Eye Pillow Kits dyed with mature, fresh indigo leaves grown in our on-site dye garden. Typically, indigo must go through a number of stages to dye fabric. In this case, as long as the plant is used immediately after harvesting, we can create this incredible, unusual shade of blue. We have a limited number of kits due to the amount of indigo in our dye garden and this very small window of maturity. These kits truly reflect the peak of Summer sun and warmth and can only be made during this time.

When I designed The Good Vibrations Eye Pillow, I was craving the perfect, relaxing afternoon: lying down, warm, eyes draped with a silky eye pillow. So I set out to find the softest silk. I designed the swirling dyeing pattern in combination with simple hand-embroidered stitches to be evocative of the slight, subtle, calming motions found in nature: a gentle breeze or ripples across water. I desired the experience of sewing the pillow to be as calming as using it. So I wrote a very simple pattern with the intention of focusing on the materials at hand rather than complicated sewing techniques. This eye pillow is made of two pieces: a pillow and silk pillowcase. The pillowcase can be washed by hand.

The Good Vibrations Eye Pillow Kit by Kristine Vejar, co-owner of AVFKW features fabrics and embroidery floss naturally-dyed in the A Verb for Keeping Warm studio. We have created kits using the same materials Kristine used in her project.

Each kit includes enough fabric to create one eye pillow and pillowcase. You can either sew this project by hand using a backstitch or use a machine. 

Finished measurements:
Approximately 8¾" long x 3¾" wide [22.2 cm x 9.5 cm]

Kit contents:
- Naturally dyed dyed stone-washed crepe de chine silk fabric
- Cotton muslin
- 2 colors of naturally dyed embroidery floss

Supplies you will need to complete this project:
- Good Vibrations Eye Pillow PDF pattern
- 1 cup rice (or filling of your choice)
- Essential oils (optional)
- Liquid measuring cup (recommended when pouring the rice into the pillow)
- Sewing machine (optional) 
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Iron

- Seam gauge
- Embroidery needle

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.

Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions: 

Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.

Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.

Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.

All international orders are shipped uninsured USPS First Class Parcel Post. We are not responsible for packages which are held in customs or lost. International orders may incur customs fees. We are not responsible for fees you may incur. International shipments can take two months to reach their destination. We caution against placing an order if you live outside the United States. At this time, we are unable to ship to the United Kingdom due to the complicated VAT situation. 

Curbside Pick-Up
To pick up your order at our shop, when checking out, under shipping method, choose Pick up at our Oakland store - 6328 San Pablo Ave.

You will receive an email when your order is ready. Orders placed Tuesday-Saturday are typically ready within 2-3 hours. To pick up your order, come to the shop between 11am - 3pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Knock on the front door and give us your name. 

Pre-orders
Pre-orders will ship on the date listed on the product’s webpage. If you ordered additional items, all items will be shipped with your pre-order. If you would like those items shipped separately, please place two separate orders.
