Textiles as a form of building resilience and forming community is the core theme of Resilient Stitch.

Claire Wellesley-Smith, also the author of Slow Stitch, considers the importance of connection and ideas around wellbeing when using textiles for individuals and communities, including practical ideas around ‘thinking-through-making’, using ‘resonant’ materials and extending the life of pieces using traditional and non-traditional methods of stitching.

In addition to highlighting Claire's work, this book highlights contemporary textile artists also employing these themes such as Ruth Singer, Raisa Kabir, and Alice Kettle. Some of the artists use natural dyeing as part of their practice. Claire provides guidance for how to create a daily textile practice via prompts, how-to, and photography.
