Happy Summer Solstice! Today, we rejoice in the sun and light on the longest day of the year. To celebrate, we have created a new colorway: Jubilant.
~~~
Jubilant is available on three yarn bases:
Floating is our softest yarn, made of 70% Alpaca ~ 20% Silk ~ 10% Cashmere, you can use it to create a single skein scarf or shawl. Or combine it with another yarn, to create an even larger piece, such as Swoop! (437 yards / 100g)
Frond is a radiant beam of halo and glow, due to its content of 64% kid mohair and 36% silk. (Fingering weight / 459 yards / 50 g)
Rumor is a yarn that we bring out for special occasions like today! Rumor is constructed from a single ply and has an irresistible shine due to its fiber content of 70% superwash Merino and 30% silk. (Fingering weight / 438 yards / 100g)
What to knit? How about Luminos?
When sitting down this year to think of what gives us great joy and happiness at this time of year - peaches came instantly to mind.
I wait all year long for peach season. It is one of my favorite fruits. I have searched high and low for the best peach. A couple years back, I found them - grown by Masumoto in the Central Valley. This lovely organic farm is family owned and has an incredible history, recorded and told through a series of books by David Mas Masumoto. The farm's legacy continues with his daughter, Nikiko.
During this time of year, I splurge on peaches. Bringing them into the studio for all of us to enjoy. I admire their soft slight fur, the golden skin with dappled specks of rose, and their sweet mango like flavor.
So in honor of peaches, we have created Jubilant - which is the feeling or expression of great happiness. Rose via speckles melds into peachy gold, which flows into a minty green, reminiscent of the peach tree's leaves, and a hint of light blue, just a peek of the Summer sky above.
I hope on this long, light-filled summer day, you are either eating a peach or enjoying something that brings and gives you joy - even the smallest moment matters.
I cannot wait to cast-on with this colorway! I hope you will join me.
Warmly,
Kristine and Team Verb
CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
