As soon as we learned Aimée was coming to Verb, we dove into creating a mini-collection of Verb x La Bien Aimée samples made from patterns featured in Aimée's newest book, Neons and Neutrals.
Thumbing through the book, Geweef instantly stood out at as a fun canvas. Team Verb stood over piles of yarn, in various textures and colors, trying to crack the code of how to combine them. We chose Floating Firefly as the main color. Made of alpaca, silk, and cashmere, Floating is so soft; the perfect blend to run throughout the shawl. To create Firefly, we sprinkle tiny bits of madder root across the yarn, resulting in little flecks of orange, similar to the spark of a firefly. We added Verb's Rumor (merino and silk), a yarn used only for special occasions, in the fresh, green colorway Seedling. And two skeins of La Bien Aimée's Merino Singles (one of which is Day by the Bay, our custom LBA color). We are thrilled with the result and feel that it encapsulates both Verb and La Bien Aimée's signature styles!

"In my mother tongue, ‘geweef’ translates as ‘woven’, and the word ‘saamgeweef’ or ‘woven together’ has a particular meaning for me in this design. Not only is this book a collaborative ‘weaving together’ of ideas and people, but the original inspiration and design elements weave together a myriad of eclectic cultural references and indigenous forms of knowledge and making. Geweef hopes to translate these vibrant patterns and textures to your needles in a playful and textured manner, with the possibility of creative color-mixing and color combination.”

Geweef is a long rectangular shawl/wrap that begins at one end with an I-cord. Stitches are then picked up along the I-cord and worked on the bias. Each right-side row involves increases and decreases in the border stitches to give the piece an asymmetrical appearance. The shawl/wrap features various stitch and pattern sections that are worked in a long mirrored repeat throughout the length of the shawl. The colorwork bands incorporate a technique that is a variation on the Roosimine/ Roositud technique, a type of inlay colorwork technique predominant in Estonian knitting. An i-cord edging throughout provides a neat, finished appearance to the knitted piece.
A stunning piece - and a must-have for your hand-knitted wardrobe.

When working with yarn dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
