Peach Bourbon Tea is Thea Colman's newest design and is knit out of Verb's Flock and Frond yarns. This is the quintessential Fall cardigan; cozy cables coupled with warm hues of red and copper. Thea's version is knit out of Flock Lucky Penny Whorl and Frond Candied Apple.
(Candied Apple is our Fall 2025 Anniversary color! It is first available as part of the Peach Bourbon Tea Bundle and will continue to roll out over the course of the next month.)
~~~
Peach Bourbon Tea is worked flat in one piece to armholes. The upper body is separated into fronts and back and worked upwards separately to shoulders. Once the upper body is seamed at shoulders, the button band and collar stitches are picked up along front edges and worked flat. Sleeve stitches are picked up around armhole openings and worked to cuff in the round. If you would like to modify the pattern, Thea gives tips and tricks.
~~~
Our palette for Peach Bourbon Tea is inspired by a the stunning kernels of a corn cob harvested from our garden.
These colors have been dyed on the Sunflower Seed Flock yarn. When this yarn is milled, every so often, as the white yarn passes through the machine, the mill adds a wisp of brown wool. So when this yarn is knit, you can expect a gradient and striping resembling the natural lines found along the surface of a sunflower seed's shell.
All of the colorways in these bundles end with the word Whorl; which means they have been dyed on Sunflower Seed and the natural ebb and flow of that brown wisp of yarn will meander throughout the stitch pattern and the sweater.
~~~
Flock is held with Frond, our fluffy and strong silk-mohair yarn. These two yarns held together make an absolutely divine fabric that is lofty with a touch of shine.
If you are coming to Woolen Affair, you can see the sample in person. And we will have lots of Flock and Frond to choose from!
CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
