Originally designed for year 13 of our Pro-Verbial Yarn & Fiber Club, the Ausma Shawl and fresh colorways are now available for all!
Inese says, "Ausma is Latvian for sunrise/dawn. When I received the Reliquary II colourways, their beautiful low contrast hues reminded me of the early summer mornings right at the dawn, when the first drops of light slowly are pouring over the meadows, adding a gentle glow to everything it touches and seeping through the thin layers of summer fog.
Ausma is designed to showcase the lightness and versatility of the beautiful Reliquary II laceweight yarn and highlight the contrasts between textures achieved with alternating panels of the yarn held single and double. It also is an invitation to explore a gentle colour shift by holding MC and CC double, creating a blended colour change within the body.
Ausma is a symmetrical shawl knit top down. Flower lace panels of the main body knit in a single strand of Reliquary II in MC are alternated by texturally rich puff rib stitch sections worked in MC and CC held together and culminating in the end ribbing knit in two strands of CC held together for a brighter contrast."

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
