Originally designed for our Pro-Verbial Club by Ririko (aka Handmadelife), the NamiNami Shawl is now available for all!
Inspired by the seaside; the stitch pattern emulates waves, gradually growing as they roll onto shore. The colorway created especially for Ririko and her design calls upon the shades of purple seen when tidepooling -- as the waves roll out, tiny pools and crevices appear, where lavender sea anemones, mauve sea fan, and purple mussels reside and tiny crabs scurry about. One of the best things about natural dyes is being able to recreate colors that we see in nature, in this case subtle shades of dusky purple and wine resulting in the colorway named Mystical Potion.
To celebrate, the release of NamiNami and our collaboration with Ririko, we are offering the original colorway, Mystical Potion, as well as two new colorways: Nectarine and Denim. We followed the same pathway in the dyeing process to create these colorways - overlapping multiple dyes and colors to create micro-hues. The way Ririko designed NamiNami allows these shades to come together effortlessly.
NamiNami is knit with Reliquary II, our laceweight yarn made of wool and silk, and results in a lightweight, soft fabric speaking to the ethereal design.

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
