Originally designed for Year 16 of the Pro-Verbial Yarn & Fiber Club, Susanne Sommer's Dottie Shawl is now available to all!

Dottie is a midi-sized triangle shawl in garter stitch featuring large brioche intarsia dots and a bobble border.
About this design, Susanne says:
"Texture play and geometric shapes are an endless source of inspiration. For Dottie, I wanted to do something strong and graphic while keeping it whimsical and sweet. Large Brioche dots combined with smaller bobbles sprang to mind as soon as I held the yarn in my hands. While I’ve been combining Brioche and Garter stitch to create geometric shapes for some time (they are a perfect textural combination), this is my first time adding the Intarsia technique into the mix. This combination of stitch patterns and techniques gives the playful, variegated colorway Garden Dreams room to shine and provides a dramatic contrast with the rich colorway Winter Sunrise used for the Garter stitch body of the Dottie shawl."

Dottie is knit with Annapurna, a super soft yarn made of Merino wool and cashmere, with a beautiful, smooth twist.
February is the last month of winter for us in Oakland. We watch the days slowly get longer and brighter as they unfurl from the height of Winter Solstice. We are now looking forward to our Spring garden filled with light, pops of color, and more warmth. To celebrate the sun’s return, we dyed for Susanne one full-sized coral skein called Winter Sunrise, and one variegated half-skein called Garden Dreams.
The yellow moment of Garden Dreams was created with weld, conjuring the yellow centers of flowers we grow for dye, which are the landing pads for pollinators like butterflies, bees, moths, and hummingbirds. The watercolor-like lavender and blush pink are created with logwood and madder, hinting to the passionfruit vines and to the climbing roses we will see on our redwood trellis, welcoming guests to our home. Each skein is lovingly prepared by hand with great attention to detail and composition. An homage to the care we give our garden to fulfill our Garden Dreams.

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
