Common Thread is the debut pattern book by Rui Yamamuro, a Japanese designer based in Paris.

The title plays on the phrase "a common thread," which refers to a shared characteristic or underlying theme. In knitting, literal thread brings our craft to life. This thread also symbolizes the author’s desire to connect people and the handcrafts from the past to those of the future, all through a single thread.

This book features 12 versatile patterns to enjoy throughout the year, including sweaters, cardigans, and skirts. Drawing on her background in garment construction, Rui combines a refined structural beauty with comfortable designs inspired by daily life in Paris. We invite you to pick up your needles and craft these pieces with your own hands.

Born in Hokkaido, Japan, Rui studied pattern making in Tokyo before establishing her own made-to-measure wedding dress atelier. She later moved to Paris to study embroidery at École Lesage, deepening her understanding of craftsmanship and textile design.

Her journey in knitwear began from a desire to create garments she truly wanted to wear. Fascinated by the relationship between structure, words, and form, she discovered a new way of expressing design through knitting patterns.

Drawing on her background in fashion construction, Rui creates timeless knitwear patterns that balance thoughtful structure, simplicity, and comfort. Her designs are made to be enjoyable to knit and to become garments that naturally belong in everyday life.

For Rui, knitting is, above all, a passion.

Based in Paris, she continues to explore the connection between hands, yarn, and the stories woven through each garment.

To pick up your order at our shop, when checking out, under shipping method, choose Pick up at our Oakland store - 6328 San Pablo Ave.

You will receive an email when your order is ready. Orders placed Tuesday-Saturday are typically ready within 24 hours. To pick up your order, come to the shop between 11am - 3pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Knock on the front door and give us your name.
