A wonderful gift!

"How small can the very best scissors be?"

This was the playful challenge of Mr. Hasegawa to his artisans at Hasegawa Cutlery, a manufacturer of edged tools in Seki, Japan's foremost cutlery-making town. The result: the adorable and remarkably sharp Seki Mini Scissors. They are a true labor of love from a company with a commitment to time-tested craftsmanship and inventive ideas.

You can cut with these scissors by gripping them with your fingers and pinching lightly. They will cut cleanly through thread, cloth, or other thin material with ease. Scissors come with a genuine leather case, made in Kyoto, for convenient portability. Once the scissors are complete, they travel to Tassel Studio MARIMO in Fukuoka Prefecture where each pair is adorned with a beautiful silk tassel.

The Seki Mini Scissors fit easily into a bag, pocket, or toolbox. Both practical and stylish, they're a great backup to shears in a pinch and make for an excellent gift.

Mini Masu Pincushions measure just 15 mm (0.6 in) square and feature sophisticated Japanese dovetail joinery that does not require nails or glue to hold the shape of the box. The smooth hinoki cypress of the box gives off a light, woodsy fragrance.

Traditionally used for celebrational sake, Japanese Masu cups have a 1,300-year history. These adorable pincushions were inspired by the elegance and joyousness of Masu cups, but made in miniature by master craftsmen at Ohashi Ryoki in Gifu Prefecture.

A high-quality linen woven in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka is used as the fabric of the pincushion, which allows pins and needles to pierce easily without dulling them.

The pincushion includes a matching sewing pin manufactured in Hiroshima, a city with a 300-year history of high-quality needle production. Rigorous quality control ensures delicately unified thickness and length of pins, and their ability to pierce cloth with ease. Once complete, the pins are topped with a glass head made by Glass Studio Kinari in Osaka.

A lovely, handwoven basket holds the small scissors and pincushion. Everything is packaged and ready to be gifted.
