Instructors: Sarah Ollikkala Jones + Kristine Vejar

With a history spanning more than three-thousand years, indigo dyeing, which requires a different process than all other natural dyes, is one of the world's most revered dyeing traditions.

In this class, use our indigo vats, tools, studio, and experience to create an array of blues on multiple types of fabric which are perfect for mending your favorite clothing. (These fabrics would also work wonderfully in quilts, like the one featured in the photos, wall hangings, and artwork.)

Fabrics include: canvas, twill, quilting cotton, medium-weight linen, and double gauze! Each piece will measure between 6"x6" and 9"x9".

You are also welcome to bring 2-3 piece of cloth made of 100% natural fibers measuring between 6"x6" and 9"x9" to dip into the vat.

We will also demonstrate a couple techniques to create resist patterns on cloth - similar to those shown in the photos.

Please bring:
+ Rubber gloves
+ Plastic bag (to take home damp fabrics)

Recommended additional items:
+ Notebook
+ The Modern Natural Dyer
+ Class is held in our outside studio. Please dress for comfort, crafting, and weather conditions (We suggest bringing a sun hat, wearing layers and sunscreen.
