Happy Mother’s Day!
Today, we have a new color in honor of the act of Mothering: Nana.
We create this color in honor of the grounded wisdom given and received via mothering and care-taking and is the name used in Adrienne's family for the Matriarch of the family.
A few years back for Mother's Day, we created the colorway Josephine and Michelle, inspired by the love Adrienne and I have for our mothers. A light wash of purple floats across the skein, and is evocative of the sky at sun set; peaceful, lavender serene clouds float overhead as birds fly overhead. Tiny flecks of hot pink speckles dance across coral pink and are met with a strong, glowing gold symbolizing the sun’s warmth, hugs, the act of nurturing and the resulting growth. This colorway embodies the aliveness of mothering and includes the cool softness as well as the bright vibrancy.
Nana is very similar. Except in place of the gold, we added a deep moody, mystical, deep plum purple. Nana pairs beautifully with J&M as well as the entire line of Verb naturally-dyed colorways.

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
