A Verb for Keeping Warm
The Landscape Portrait Wall Hanging Bundle
Color
The Landscape Portrait Wall Hanging Bundle by Kristine Vejar, co-owner of AVFKW, features fabrics naturally-dyed in the A Verb for Keeping Warm naturally-dyeing studio. This beautiful, decorative piece is inspired by the Korean patchwork technique called jogakbo. Through the use of tiny, hand stitches, and geometric shapes, the finished piece evokes ethereal, stained-glass. This wall-hanging provides a way to curate a palette which is meaningful to you. In this case, given the theme of the magazine, we focused upon a desert-inspired palette.
(If you would like to learn more about jogakbo, you can listen to Youngmin Lee's episode on our podcast Reverberate.)
We have created bundles using the same materials Kristine used in her project. This includes naturally colored handwoven, organic cotton cloth, as well as linen, cotton, and silk organza dyed with cutch, madder, quebracho red, walnut, and indigo. This bundle includes enough fabric to create one 13.5" tall x 11" wide wall hanging.

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
