I just had to dive in and cast-on for Orna, Brienne Moody's new sweater knit out of Bread & Butter Everyday. I immediately wanted to swatch with Coastal Redwood. It is the quintessential Autumn color; a deep burgundy with flecks of red and brown. And then, as I approached casting-on for the sweater, I got cold feet. I was afraid that the stitch pattern would fall back, behind the color.

I absolutely love Brienne's version with Minnows, a light grey color. Most times, I will create a sample in a different color than the designer's just to show another option and widen the palette. But this time, I couldn't shake the bug. So decided to cast-on with Minnows.
And now, as that swatch knit out of Coastal Redwood has sat by my side, through dawn, daylight, and dusk, I absolutely believe it would (and will!) make a gorgeous Orna. I can totally see the cables. So I say, if this colorways is calling your name - go for it! (I will make an Orna hat in this colorway instead.)

The stitch pattern is easy to follow, a bit like a dance, a little of this and that, a cable here and there to keep things interesting but not over the top, with rows of rest. And the overall pattern is very straightforward.
One thing to note: I find that my knitting with Everyday relaxes a lot once blocked. So make sure to block your swatch, or if you want to live on the edge, knit tighter than you think you would need to, perhaps by going down a needle size, to compensate for the relaxation after blocking.
Even though this is our busiest time of year between prepping the shop for the fall and holidays, and the harvest coming in from the garden, I try to knit just a few rounds between dinner and bed to wind down.

I hope you will join me in knitting an Orna. And we will both be cozy warm this Winter!
Warmly,
Kristine
