The High Line by Jennifer Shiels Toland is a unisex, textured scarf and shawl worked flat, producing a completely reversible fabric so that no side of the tracks is the wrong side. ;) Inspired by New York City’s historic elevated railway, the 1 x 1 ribbing echoes the rails, whilst the sleepers have inspired rows of squishy garter stitch.
High Line is written for three sizes:

Shawn chose this pattern because they wanted to knit a gift for a friend who is going through some health challenges. They had a few specific criteria: something that would be quick enough to finish in a few weeks, something that would offer coziness and warmth, and to capture a feeling of summer sunshine.
Shawn chose this pattern because they wanted to knit a gift for a friend who is going through some health challenges. They had a few specific criteria: something that would be quick enough to finish in a few weeks, something that would offer coziness and warmth, and to capture a feeling of summer sunshine.
That last one was easy! Sun-Dappled, made with the petals of home-grown marigolds, is one of our most popular colorways. The flowers absorb the sunlight to grow, and we press the flowers themselves into the yarn, preserving the essence of summer in fiber form.
On Horizon, the bright marigold yellow creates clear, cheerful pops of color. Horizon is made with 100% organic Rambouillet wool from New Mexico (a breed of sheep closely related to Merino), which is both soft enough to wear next to skin, as well as being durable enough to be resilient for years to come. And of course, most importantly - warm and cozy.
Horizon's round, bouncy twist makes ribbing and garter stitch pop beautifully, which made it a perfect match for the High Line pattern! And this DK / light worsted yarn meant that Shawn could complete this shawl in a couple weeks of casual knitting.
The result is a beautiful encapsulation of warmth and summertime, knit with love, ready to be wrapped snugly around a friend.

*MODS: High Line is wonderfully adaptable to just a small amount of yardage. With just two skeins, Shawn was able to knit the larger size shawl - simply continuing the increase section until the first skein was finished, and then switching to decreases with the second skein. Due to differences in gauge, they knit a few less repeats of the final increase section before running out of the first skein, but due to the shawl's tip-to-tip construction, this was an easy modification to make.

Make your own High Line with just 1 or 2 skeins of Horizon! We've selected a few colors, including Sun-Dappled, that would make a beautiful version:
