Our Solstice Experience is similar to what many know as an advent calendar. Towards the beginning of December, you will receive a collection of gifts, marked and designed to be opened on the Solstice (December 21st, 2023 and for six days after the Solstice.
As December can be quite hectic, this experience is designed and intended to cultivate a little bit (or a lot) of space each day to stitch and to be calm and present with what is a beautiful time of year. To embrace the darkness and rejuvenate, as we move from the Solstice's darkest night of the year and head once again towards the light. And to give you a little gift each day to inspire your creativity and to offer care.
Our focus will be on touch and how it guides the meditative stitching process. Our intention is to help create space for you to stitch a bit each day, and to give you a gift each day to inspire your creativity and to offer care.
(You can be an absolute beginner stitcher to participate. Feel free to email us for guidance. We recommend having the following tools on hand: needles for embroidery and sashiko, small scissors, and a 4-7" embroidery hoop is optional.)
This year, we invite members to join us for our daily 10 minute silent, virtual meditation. (Time to be determined.)
Between now and early December when we ship your kit to you, we will be busy designing, gathering, and creating your gifts. This is our second time creating a kit like this - last year's kit was a hit! We have so many fun surprises up our sleeve!

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
