Originally published in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, and now available as a single pattern and online class, Emma Versions A and B is a great introduction for knitters who are new to the Cocoknits Method. With simple stockinette and a gauge of 3 stitches to 1" / 2.5 cm, it knits up quickly and wears like a comfy knitted sweatshirt.
Don’t let the simplicity fool you - there’s plenty of room to play! Choose the open v-neck of Version A or the boatneck of Version B; knit it with long or short sleeves; add waist shaping - the customizations are limitless. This updated edition has a wider range of sizes (33.25-73.25" / 84.5-186.5 cm bust) and an optional ribbed collar for Version A.
Cocoknits knit their version (shown here), using Bread & Butter Everyday in Yucca Blossom paired with a strand of our baby suri alpaca yarn, Soft Current in Seedling, for a super cozy Emma with a light drape.

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
