Cecelia Campochiaro's newest design for the Bay Area Yarn Crawl is named Color Poem! Featuring our 2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl colorways: Fairy Ring and Nirvana.

Color Poem comes in two sizes: a scarf and a larger shawl. This page is for the Color Poem Scarf. (Please click here to see the Color Poem Shawl page.)
~~~
Color Poem is a reversible, triangular-shaped, and features a slip stitch pattern from her newest book Reversible Knitting. The triangle is worked tip-up. Cecelia used the Entering the Forest palette to create the sample seen in the photos.
The scarf version uses 5 colors and is a mix of striped bands and solid-color bands. The ends from the color changes are secured with whip stitches, creating little nubs on the edges.
"This pattern is called Color Poem because this magical stitch pattern creates a kind of visual poetry with the yarns."
~ Cecelia
This year's yarn crawl colorway and palettes are inspired for our love of local bay area mushrooms!
To destress and rejuvenate, Adrienne and I often head for the hills in the Winter and are treated to gorgeous vignettes of trees, mushroom, lichen, and leaves dappled with light and a touch of fog. The dogs love it too! We can spend hours, sometimes only going a few feet at a time, as we pass from one mushroom microcosm to the next. Included are photos highlighting some of the textures and color combinations seen on our hikes.
We have created three palettes for you that are designed especially for Cecelia's new design and are inspired by the colors found in our local redwood forests and the mushrooms found there. And, all three palettes include our 2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl colorway, Fairy Ring, which has been dyed with one of our favorite, local mushrooms: Pisolithus tinctoria.
The three palettes are:
Entering the Forest -- those first few moments, when you have entered the forest and you are surrounded by trees, their roots, bark, branches, and leaves. The trees reach far into the sky, their sweeping canopy nearly covering the sky and creating deep shadows. As your eyes adjust, you can start making out little mushrooms poking from under the dried leaves or along the tree's bark. As you come closer, you can see the small details like fur and stripes. This palette includes greens and a touch of lavender.
The Feeling of When You Find a Mushroom -- is an extra special moment when the world falls away and your entire focus is on seeing this otherworldly specimen which brings so much delight and wonder. Often times, multiple types of mushrooms grow near one another, so you can almost be assured that as your eye travels up, down, left, and right, there will be more textures, shapes, and colors to enjoy.
Exiting the Forest - and then, inevitably, the sun begins to dip behind the trees and the forest grows darker. It is time to head back to the car, photos of mushrooms in hand, to go home, to cook and enjoy a meal and reminisce about the day's adventure.
CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
