Portia by Cocoknits is a cozy layering piece made with a waffle knit texture, V-neck, and a split hem. Dress it up or down - wear over a t-shirt, a button-down, or even a dress, to add style and warmth to any outfit.
Our version of Portia is knit with one strand each of Nibble and Frond held together. This combination of yarns creates a plush, squishy fabric. The fluffy mohair from the Frond adds a gentle glowing halo elevating this vest to a garment that can be worn to a nice dinner, to an important meeting, or anytime you want to feel a bit extra special.
Nibble is for those of you who love to support California wool. Nibble is a 2-ply yarn made of soft fine wool and comes from sheep who live in Santa Barbara County and work with the local fire department to nibble and graze along the hillside to help with wildfire suppression. This is a yarn that helps the environment and is also beautiful and lovely to work with.
(Please note that Nibble has a rustic twist, akin to hand-spinning. This means you can expect to find small sections that may have a little less twist and even a small piece of grass. We think of these nuances as special characteristics of this small batch yarn! )

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
+ Finished Chest: (37.25, 39.5, 42) (46.75, 51.5, 56.5) (61.25, 66, 70.75)”
The sample shown has a 39.5" finished chest measurement. It has been cropped to a finished length of 20.5". While the pattern calls for a longer back hem than the front, our sample has the same length in front and back.
We have listed these bundles in accordance with the original way the pattern was written. However, due to our pattern mods, we used less yardage then what the pattern calls for. We have recorded our sample details on Ravelry. While we still needed what Cocoknits calls for in the pattern for this size (39.5" = 4 skeins Nibble / 2 skeins Frond), we barely used the 4th and 2nd skein. So, if you are size 46.75", you may be able to get away with 4 / 2. Unfortunately, because we have not knit the actual sample in this size, I cannot guarantee that, but wanted to let you know!

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
