A Verb for Keeping Warm
AVFKW x Making Magazine - Full Moon Project Bag Bundle
Style
The Full Moon Project Bag sewing pattern is one of many projects featured in Making No. 3 / Dots. In the magazine, Kristine, the designer of this project and co-owner of Verb writes:
The moon—a shifting, but nevertheless constant in our lives, counting days, weeks, months, and years. I find it helpful to look at the moon, to remind myself of my connection with the earth and nature. The simple relationship between our daily lives and the cycles of the moon gives reassurance. To create the moon on this project bag, I used a piece of acrylic cut in the shape of a circle, clamped the circle to a piece of fabric, and then dyed it with indigo. Once the dyeing is completed, the deep blue of the indigo is reminiscent of the night sky, the white circle, an emulation of the moon shining through the darkness. A simple drawstring bag is endlessly helpful; whether to use to carry a knitting project or your lunch. This simple, hand-stitched bag could be easily made out of any number of colors and fabrics. Embroidered circles grace the back of the project bag, but improvisation is always welcome. Perhaps there is an embroidery pattern of your own you would like to try.
The Full Moon Project Bag Kit includes material to make one bag.
NEW! We have added a new kit option - Night Moon! To dye the moon fabric, we clamped the fabric the same way, but rather than dyeing it solid we created an ombre effect that reminds us of the night sky.

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
