Say hello to this year's Summer Solstice colorway: Marmalade Skies!
And with every order of Marmalade Skies this week, you will receive a free, sweet Summer seed packet to grow a collection of our favorite dye plants: marigolds, coreopsis, and indigo!

We have gone all out this year! Marmalade Skies is available on FIVE yarn bases:
Floating is our softest yarn, made of 70% Alpaca ~ 20% Silk ~ 10% Cashmere. Use it to create a single skein scarf or shawl. Or combine it with another yarn, to create an even larger piece, such as Swoop Shawl by Romi Hill! Available as both 100g skeins and cute mini 20g skeins. (437 yards / 100g OR 87 yards / 20g)
Frond is a radiant beam of halo and glow, due to its content of 64% kid mohair and 36% silk. Hold together with another yarn, or knit into an airy cloud on its own! (459 yards / 50g)
Rumor is a yarn that we bring out for special occasions like today! Rumor is constructed from a single ply and has an irresistible shine due to its fiber content of 70% superwash Merino and 30% silk. (438 yards / 100g)
Doodle is a very special yarn made with 100% California wool that has been gently superwashed, so it takes dye vibrantly, and tightly spun, for bounciness and resilience. This yarn is great for socks, as well as baby garments, shawls, and hats. (400 yards / 100g)
Graze is for the true California wool connoisseur. This feel-good, light worsted-weight is made with a blend of Targhee, Rambouillet, Merino, and other fine wools, and is next-to-skin soft. The wool for this yarn comes from sheep who live in Santa Barbara County and work with the local fire department to nibble and graze along the hillside to help with wildfire suppression. This is a yarn that helps the environment and is also beautiful and lovely to work with. (worsted weight / 116 yards / 50g)

Creating the Summer Solstice colorway is one of my favorite annual projects. Because I live for the long, warm Summer days where I can make, garden, and cook with the sun shining above. And to celebrate this time of year by creating a color! (Truly the dreamiest part of my job - other than seeing y'all make with it! And getting to celebrate your skills and talent!)
I was drawn to duality and the soft, serene sky that occurs just as the sun rises and sets when the sky has wisps of periwinkle and sherbet. And the gold flowers growing in the garden are illuminated by the light. It is at this time of day, when if the sun is rising, there is so much possibility lying ahead, and when if the sun is setting, and the day has been full of fun adventures, and it is time to relax and reflect.
When looking at this color, the Beatles song, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds came to mind. Looking at the lyrics, the phrase Marmalade Skies jumped out immediately as the perfect name.
Julie at Cocoknits had surprised us with these gorgeous flowers she grew in her garden. Roses were my Grandmother's favorite flowers. And my favorite memories are spending time with her in her garden. Julie's stunning bouquet fit absolutely perfectly with this colorway and really gives us the dream of sitting amongst flowers making.
I have already cast-on with this colorway and am in love! The colors are dancing between my needles as a I knit. I will share photos soon. I have paired Marmalade Skies with Frond and am knitting the Peacock Scarf - which is turning out to be the best case of eating an icy, fruity popsicle in the form of knitting!
Reserve your yarn now! And we will ship ASAP. Just in time to cast-on for the Solstice!
Thank you for being here!

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
