AVFKW x Making Magazine - The Little Indigo Quilt Bundle

Make this simple mini-quilt to learn the basics of piecework and quilting. Consisting of simple lines, it is easy to make. If you would like to make a bigger quilt, simply follow the same framework and use larger pieces of fabric. Or make more mini-quilts as a fun way to explore color, texture, and pattern. use this little quilt as a coaster for your favorite mug, as a sweet touch of fabric and color on your bedside table, or to hang on your wall as a piece of art.

Kristine, the co-owner of Verb, originally made a more simple version using mainly solid-indigo dyed fabric. A while later, she thought it would be fun to incorporate more fabrics, and created a Little Indigo Quilt using multiple scraps of indigo-dyed fabric. And now, there is a version including fabrics naturally-dyed in an array of colors as well as indigo, for the ultimate scrappy, happy experience! 

Please note, each bundle is unique. There may be slight variations in the colors or application of the dyes.

The Little Indigo Quilt bundle includes enough fabric to create one 9"x 7" quilt. 

The Original Bundle includes: 
- two pieces of cotton fabric indigo-dyed in our Oakland studio
- one piece of handspun, handwoven, naturally dyed organic cotton khadi fabric
- organic cotton batting
- indigo dyed sashiko thread
- sashiko needles

The Scrappy Indigo Bundle includes: 
- five pieces of cotton fabric indigo-dyed in our Oakland studio
- one piece of handspun, handwoven, naturally dyed organic cotton fabric
- one fat quarter of linen / cotton white fabric
- organic cotton batting
- white sashiko thread
- sashiko needles

The Scrappy Colorful Bundle includes:
- five pieces of cotton fabric naturally-dyed and indigo-dyed in our Oakland studio
- one piece of handspun, handwoven, naturally dyed organic cotton fabric
- one fat quarter of linen / cotton white fabric
- organic cotton batting
- white sashiko thread
- sashiko needles

Supplies you will need (not included in kit):

- Clear ruler
- Cutting mat
- Rotary cutter
- Scissors
- Pins
- Hand sewing needle
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Cotton sewing thread
- Iron & ironing board

When working with fabric, thread, and fiber dyed with indigo, it is common and natural for the blue dye to rub off on one’s hands while sewing. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra indigo dye. Your handwork is part of the indigo dyeing process. The blue dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with indigo dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.

Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions: 

Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.

Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle with pH neutral soap, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.

Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water with pH neutral soap. Lay flat to dry.

Curbside Pick-Up
To pick up your order at our shop, when checking out, under shipping method, choose Pick up at our Oakland store - 6328 San Pablo Ave.

You will receive an email when your order is ready. Orders placed Tuesday-Saturday are typically ready within 24 hours. To pick up your order, come to the shop between 11am - 3pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Knock on the front door and give us your name. 

Pre-orders
