Join us for the 14th year of Romi's Mystery Shawl Knit-a-long!
Right now, Romi is knitting and designing a gorgeous shawl pattern. She will then release portions of this pattern, once a week, over a month. When you embark on this adventure, you do not know what the finished shawl looks like - that's the mystery! As you receive the portions of the pattern, the clues, and knit them, the shawl will emerge before your eyes.
Upon first hearing this, you may think "that's wild!" The good news is that there is a group of very enthusiastic people who have participated in this journey over the years - some all thirteen years! And they meet on Ravelry for a lively discussion so feel free to join them or go solo!

ROMI'S 2026 INSPIRATION
"Last year, I asked my followers to tell me what color they see when they think of hope. To me, it’s a sun dappled day filled with blossoms and buzzing bees. I hope you’ll find your favorite colorway and join me for my 2026 mystery shawl: The Color of Hope."
~ Romi
Romi will be knitting her shawl using Floating in Promise and Sunbeam.

Choose from the following yarns:
Floating - a blend of alpaca, cashmere, and silk, our absolute softest yarn. Float away stitch by stitch as you knit!
Rumor - its iridescent shine is irresistible. We only offer this yarn (70% merino / 30% silk) for special occasions - so this is a nice opportunity to try it out!
Doodle - a very special yarn made with 100% California wool that has been gently superwashed, so it takes dye vibrantly, and tightly spun, for bounciness and resilience. Years ago, we offered Doodle as part of the MKAL. It was very popular - so now we are bringing it back!

You know us. Our hearts beat aflutter when the flowers begin to bloom and the bees are buzzing. Right when we get to the point when we think Spring will never come again, poof, everything in the garden flourishes and thrives. An inspiration to us all; that when we feel worn, and tired, to rest, and trust that once again we will bloom.
This year we have created three sets of colors where the main, solid color is peaceful and grounding and then paired it with a skein that has bright and cheerful speckles reminiscent of little fields of flowers whose petals provide pops of color, galloping along, bringing joy. This pairing creates a beautiful balance.
All Verb yarn is dyed using plants in our Oakland studio.
Choose from the following colors:
Golden Promise + Sunbeam
Green Sweet Bay + Oxalis - please note, in real life, Sweet Bay is more green than what is shown in the photos. (This color is very hard to photograph.)
Purple Hyacinth + Aster
Please know there are a limited number of kits - once they're gone, they're gone. So jump in and purchase your kit!

CROCKING
When working with yarn dyed with indigo and with medium to dark shades of natural dyes (especially on slick fibers like mohair), it is common and natural for the dye to rub off on one’s hands while making. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease.
~~~
ALWAYS use pH-neutral soap when blocking and washing natural dyes.
Please note the fiber content of the material you are working with, and follow the applicable instructions:
Cotton or linen - Machine washable on cool cycle. Lay flat to dry.
Superwash Wool - Machine washable on cool cycle, though hand wash recommended. Lay flat to dry.
Wool and Wool blends - Handwash only in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.
